Santander

Capital of Cantabria. The bay, El Sardinero beach, the Magdalena Palace and Renzo Piano's Centro Botín. A city you can walk.

Santander is the capital of Cantabria and a city made for walking. You can follow the bay — said to be one of the most beautiful in the world — on foot or by bike from the centre to the Magdalena Palace, the former royal summer residence where the UIMP summer courses are held.

El Sardinero beach, with its two twin stretches of sand, sets the pace of the city in summer. And Renzo Piano’s Centro Botín, opened in 2017, has reshaped the seafront in the centre and hosts first-rate exhibitions.

For a full day: a stroll along the Paseo Pereda, coffee on Calle Hernán Cortés, a visit to the Centro Botín or the Museum of Prehistory of Cantabria, lunch at the Mercado del Este, sunset at La Magdalena. It’s 80 minutes from Alles on the A-8.
