San Pedro de Plecín is the main medieval archaeological site in the municipality of Peñamellera Alta. It holds the remains of a 12th-century Romanesque church and a necropolis with graves cut into the rock itself, dated between the 8th and 14th centuries.
The setting — high up, on a rocky outcrop with views over the valley — speaks for itself: this was a strategic point for controlling the territory in the early Middle Ages. The site is open to visit freely, with interpretive panels, and it brings together archaeological interest and a short walk in the surroundings.
A ten-minute walk from Alles. It pairs well with a morning of coffee in the village and Plecín before lunch. If you’re coming with children, it’s one of those visits where the imagination does the work on its own.
