Pico Morea (Sierra del Cuera)

A quieter summit on the Cuera ridge with a solitary feel. A classic route for getting to know the range away from the crowded paths.

Pico Morea is one of the summits on the western Cuera ridge, in Peñamellera country. Less frequented than Liño or Turbina, it keeps a solitary feel and wide views towards the Cabrales valley and the central and eastern massifs of the Picos de Europa.

The usual route combines grazing tracks with open path in the summit area. You cross traditional shepherds’ huts, some still in use through the summer, and you get a clear sense of how transhumance has shaped this landscape over the centuries.

For anyone wanting to get to know the Sierra del Cuera without the crowds of the more popular summits, Morea is a good choice. We’d recommend a clear day and the company of a local guide so as not to lose the line where the mist sets in.
