The Pica de Peñamellera (624 m) is the mountain that historically gave its name to the two neighbouring municipalities, Peñamellera Alta and Peñamellera Baja. Modest in height but markedly rocky in character, its outline can be seen from Alles and from much of the district.
The most popular ascent is short, barely 4–5 km return, but the final stretch becomes technical, with rocky moves that call for care. From the summit you look out over the Cares valley, the Cuera ridge to the north and the Picos de Europa to the south, a panorama out of all proportion to the modest figure on the map.
Thanks to how close it is to Alles (10 minutes by car to the start of the route), it’s the ideal option if you have half a day and want a compact walk that pays well in views. Footwear with good grip is advisable.
